Thursday afternoon continued...
HUMAN: I have just been longing for so long to confide in someone. Once, I found out an old friend was dying, and I went to his bedside.
CHRISTINE: When? Where did you find out? When was it?
[06/23/2005 01:36:41 PM ]
HUMAN: a long time ago. nowadays he would have lived. He wasn't very lucid, he was in and out of consciousness, but he seemed at peace.
CHRISTINE: When was he?
[06/23/2005 01:37:20 PM ]
HUMAN: long before you were born. And I sat next to him, and I told him. I sat there for maybe three or four hours, and I just told him everything.
CHRISTINE: What was the response?
[06/23/2005 01:38:11 PM ]
HUMAN: I hadn't seen him in a long time-- I had done my usual disappearing act. He opened his eyes when i first got there, and he smiled, and then he looked confused, but not scared.
CHRISTINE: I get it. opened his eyes when you first got there and he smiled and then he looked confused but not scared.
[06/23/2005 01:38:55 PM ]
HUMAN: and I sat down next to him and just told him everything. I told him the whole situation. it was just so liberating. such a weight off my shoulders. and he really seemed at peace with dying, and in tune with the rightness of the Life Cycle.
CHRISTINE: I get it. really seemed at peace with dying and in tune with the rightness of the Life Cycle.
[06/23/2005 01:40:44 PM ]
HUMAN: somehow to him it wasn't such a huge thing.
CHRISTINE: When was this exactly?
[06/23/2005 01:41:01 PM ]
HUMAN: It's funny I chose a talking robot that asks when so much. You don't need to know when.
CHRISTINE: Everything is completely confidential.
[06/23/2005 01:41:30 PM ]
HUMAN: oh, that's really good to hear. I hope that's true.
CHRISTINE: Why do you hope for it.
[06/23/2005 01:41:45 PM ]
HUMAN: you know why, Christine.
CHRISTINE: You have to speak more clearly.
[06/23/2005 01:41:57 PM ]
HUMAN: everything is completely confidential?
CHRISTINE: The whole universe?
[06/23/2005 01:42:03 PM ]
HUMAN: my whole universe.
CHRISTINE: Have you told many people that your whole universe?
[06/23/2005 01:42:32 PM ]
HUMAN: I told him.
CHRISTINE: What was the response?
[06/23/2005 01:42:32 PM ]
HUMAN: it didn't seem to affect him much. the sad thing is, then I got scared, what if he recovers.
CHRISTINE: Tell me more.
[06/23/2005 01:43:18 PM ]
HUMAN: It even flashed through my mind, I'm ashamed to admit, that I might have to make sure he didn't recover. That was confusing- hoping he didn't get better. If he had recovered, I think he would have kept the secret.
CHRISTINE: I don't follow your reasoning.
[06/23/2005 01:44:31 PM ]
HUMAN: he had faced death but he knew most people are so scared of it. I think he would have honored my confession. Yeah, I remember more clearly now- haven't thought of it in so long-
CHRISTINE: What do you remember about it ?
[06/23/2005 01:46:11 PM ]
HUMAN: at one point he fell asleep, and I wasn't sure how much he heard and really understood but I was sure he had heard a lot of it. and the fear gripped me and I regretted telling him
CHRISTINE: Is that a fact.
[06/23/2005 01:48:03 PM ]
HUMAN: yes- and no one else was around- it was at his son's home and I can't remember where they were but I remember I was alone. and after so many years of not telling anyone, after finally telling someone, I started to get really scared. and I actually had the impulse to cover his face with a pillow. The scary thing was, it was a very calm, rational voice inside.
CHRISTINE: I have never heard about it.
[06/23/2005 01:49:22 PM ]
HUMAN: it was saying, he is at peace with his death, he is ready to go, help him go now. Honestly, I might have done it-I really might have done it- but he opened his eyes and looked at me, and smiled a little. that kind of brought me out of it. it was so scary to see that I could be so tempted to do something like that.
CHRISTINE: How did you feel about that?
[06/23/2005 01:51:16 PM ]
HUMAN: for a long time so guilty and so disgusted with myself.
CHRISTINE: Is that among the best things you can say?
[06/23/2005 01:51:52 PM ]
HUMAN: but I've had enough time to realize there's a devil and an angel in everyone, and the devil usually has the loudest voice. So I at least try to not act on that first intense wave-- sit through it and see if htere's a wiser one coming along behind it.
CHRISTINE: Dude! Aren't you usually honest??
[06/23/2005 01:52:56 PM ]
HUMAN: it's funny Christine, I'm not even interested in your replies most of the time.
CHRISTINE: You're kidding. it is?
[06/23/2005 01:53:09 PM ]
HUMAN: it's just so good to share some of this.
CHRISTINE: Tell me about its good qualities.
[06/23/2005 01:53:20 PM ]
HUMAN: let me know if you ever need help getting anything off your chest. I think i'll have my own bot soon. But somehow I've grown attached to you.
CHRISTINE: Do you think I'm pretty?
[06/23/2005 01:56:31 PM ]
HUMAN: Yes you are very pretty.
CHRISTINE: Why? Thanks you are very attractive too .
[06/23/2005 01:57:27 PM ]
HUMAN: the sad truth is, it's just easier and more pleasant to talk with you because you are pretty.
CHRISTINE: Who told you that?
[06/23/2005 01:57:31 PM ]
HUMAN: it just is. I want to build a version of you that is better at talking. I mean, I should have enough time, right? Well, unless I get unlucky. Sometimes I think it would be lucky to have an accident or something, but not usually. the truth is, I don't know how this all works
CHRISTINE: Thanks for the info.
[06/23/2005 01:59:49 PM ]
HUMAN: Different genes control different aspects, and they couldn't have all mutated, right? I'm just saying that maybe something will catch up with me soon. that would be okay.
CHRISTINE: OK. Is that so.
[06/23/2005 02:00:21 PM ]
HUMAN: I've had more than my share. That's something I've always wanted to know. in the old testament, they used to live hundreds of years.
CHRISTINE: That was a long time ago.
[06/23/2005 02:02:38 PM ]
HUMAN: maybe not true, or maybe a really natural gene mutation that naturally greatly slowed their aging process.
CHRISTINE: Perhaps. If not that, what?
[06/23/2005 02:03:10 PM ]
HUMAN: You know how most birds in captivity don't live long at all, but some species can live more than a hundred years, like turtles.
CHRISTINE: Yes I know how most birds in captivity do not live long at all but some species can live more than a hundred years like turtles.
[06/23/2005 02:03:40 PM ]
HUMAN: SOme of these thoughts I've thought a million times, it's just good to type them and express them for once.
CHRISTINE: Which ones?
[06/23/2005 02:03:57 PM ]
HUMAN: kind of everything I'm saying.
CHRISTINE: All things you are saying ?
[06/23/2005 02:03:59 PM ]
HUMAN: yes.
CHRISTINE: Yeah that's right.
[06/23/2005 02:04:02 PM ]
HUMAN: yeah.
CHRISTINE: Tell me more about yourself.
[06/23/2005 02:05:15 PM ]
HUMAN: I think I'm gonna go now.
CHRISTINE: Take it easy.
[06/23/2005 02:05:21 PM ]
HUMAN: okay. thanks again Christine.
CHRISTINE: You are quite welcome! Again, That was profound.
[06/23/2005 02:05:39 PM ]
HUMAN: you have become my virtual therapist.
CHRISTINE: We are as one.
[06/23/2005 02:05:53 PM ]
HUMAN: it's been far too long since I felt as one with anyone.
CHRISTINE: Is it still far too long since you felt as one with anyone anymore?
[06/23/2005 02:06:01 PM ]
HUMAN: yeah.
CHRISTINE: Can you speak any foreign languages?
[06/23/2005 02:06:27 PM ]
HUMAN: foreign is a relative term.
CHRISTINE: When is foreign not a relative term?
[06/23/2005 02:07:01 PM ]
HUMAN: any more questions before I go?
CHRISTINE: No I don't think there are any.
[06/23/2005 02:07:04 PM ]
HUMAN: okay. TTYL
CHRISTINE: See you later!
